Spring Guided Tours

Daily Appointments for Discovering the City Center
In addition to highlighting the variety and richness of its green spaces, spring in Bolzano offers numerous opportunities to uncover the artistic and architectural beauties that define the city. A detailed calendar sets daily guided tours to discover the city, its history, and its delicious enogastronomic specialties. Mondays are dedicated to the ancient and modern buildings of the historic center. Depending on availability, visitors can explore the Provincial Council Hall, the town hall, the Mercantile Palace with its magnificent hall and historic cellars, as well as the refined Menz and Pock palaces.
On the first Tuesday of each month, the abbot of the Benedictine Monastery of Muri-Gries opens the doors of the convent and the two parish churches of Gries: the Baroque church with its magnificent frescoes by Martin Knoller, and the old Gothic parish church with its precious Romanesque wooden crucifix and the famous altar by Michael Pacher (1471-1475). On all other Tuesdays and Saturdays at 10:30 AM, there is a classic tour of the historic center with its ancient squares and the famous Portici to discover the commercial soul of the city, the Via dei Bottai, medieval cellars, and the house of the wine press, as well as the art treasures of the most significant churches in the center.
Every Wednesday morning, the guided tour is enhanced by the opportunity to visit the South Tyrol Archaeological Museum, home to the famous "Ötzi," the Iceman. Entrance with a guide allows for direct access without waiting in line, and once inside, visitors can explore the museum independently.
On Thursday afternoons, the program offers the chance to discover underground Bolzano. Visitors will tour the Cathedral crypt, archaeological excavations at the “Hannah Arendt” school, the historic cellars of the Mercantile Palace, and other fascinating underground sites beneath the Portici. The tour will conclude with a convivial drink.

Visits with a Taste
These special itineraries offer the chance to combine culture with pleasure and enjoy the convivial atmosphere of the city. Starting this year, every Tuesday afternoon, a relaxing walk is organized, divided into three stops, to guide you in tasting a homemade glass of wine, a refreshing beer, and other local delicacies in some historic corners.
Also, every Tuesday and Friday afternoon, those wishing to learn more about the city's wine tradition can choose a guided tour of the Bolzano Winery, where – in addition to discovering the charm of the innovative architecture that characterizes it – they can learn about the steps of winemaking, from grape processing to bottling. The tour ends with a tasting accompanied by expert wine makers.
On Friday afternoons, a tour is offered that leads to the discovery of Bolzano's historic center, concluding with a tasting of the famous Alto Adige IGP speck, one of the region's most renowned quality products. In collaboration with the Consorzio Speck Alto Adige, the tour guide leads participants through the city center, telling fascinating stories about the city. Later, participants will meet the ambassador of speck, who will explain the history, production methods, and the strict quality guidelines for Speck Alto Adige IGP. The visit concludes in a traditional venue where participants will taste speck with a good glass of wine.
Also on Fridays, in the morning, a city tour sheds light on the contrasts that make Bolzano unique, where Tyrolean Baroque meets the monumental Italian architecture of the 1920s and 1930s, in a walk through the historic center and past the imposing buildings from the interwar period. The tour concludes with a tasting of homemade ice cream at a selected gelato shop.
