"Poetic Middle Ages"
February is the month of lovers, and Bolzano is truly a romantic destination. A crossroads of cultures for centuries, the city has welcomed Venetian and northern European merchants, clergy, nobles, and bourgeoisie since the Middle Ages, all of whom have shaped its architectural style and way of life. The city’s basin is dotted with enchanting castles such as Castel Roncolo, Castel Flavon, and Castel Mareccio, as well as churches adorned with medieval frescoes, like the Church of San Giovanni in Villa or Santa Maddalena. Outstanding among these are 15th-century altarpieces, such as Michael Pacher’s, and Giotto-style sacred vaults, like those in the Chapel of San Giovanni in the Dominican Church. Meanwhile, the historic center, with its arcades, winding streets, and open squares, tells ancient stories and preserves precious cultural heritage. One of the city's most iconic figures is Walther von der Vogelweide, the renowned Minnesänger and symbol of Bolzano. His statue stands proudly at the center of the square that bears his name.
"Enchanted Mountains"
A simple glance upward from the city is enough to be captivated by the Schlern massif and the Catinaccio peaks, which rise dramatically to the east of the city center, especially at sunset when the magic of the alpenglow phenomenon takes place. Bolzano is embraced by its mountains, offering unique experiences just minutes from the city—ideal for skiers but also for those who love walking and breathing in the crisp mountain air of winter. Val d’Ega with Carezza and Obereggen, Val Sarentino, and the Renon offer immersive natural experiences, perfect for winter sports enthusiasts or those looking to relax in a winter wonderland.
Bolzano is the perfect stop for a rejuvenating break: between an enchanted moment with views of the Catinaccio and a thrilling ski run, the city itself offers a wide range of activities to explore and a top-tier hospitality scene to indulge in. The hotel selection is particularly rich and diverse, with accommodations suited to every need, many featuring convenient parking, such as the refined Hotel Mondschein, the modern Sheraton, or the minimalist Hotel Regina.
And for a culinary treat? The sophisticated Kaiserkron or the traditional Fink restaurant are perfect choices, blending authenticity with top-quality gastronomy.
